WHAT WE DO
Bathroom Waterproofing
Sure Seal Waterproofing provides professional bathroom waterproofing services for residential builders and developers across Melbourne and the Sunshine Coast, delivering fully compliant systems in accordance with Australian Standards (AS 3740). We understand that bathrooms are high-risk wet areas where correct detailing, preparation, and membrane application are critical to preventing future defects.
Our team ensures all junctions, penetrations, shower recesses and floor-to-wall connections are treated with precision, reducing the risk of leaks, call-backs and warranty issues. Working in line with construction schedules, we coordinate efficiently on-site to help builders maintain timelines while ensuring every bathroom is sealed properly and built to perform long term.

HOW WE WORK
Our 6-Step Process for Proven Reliable Bathroom Waterproofing
We prepare the surface by cleaning, repairing cracks, and creating the necessary slope towards the drain. The surface must be structurally sound and stable as well as clean, dry, and free from dirt, grime, or any loose particles.
We apply a suitable primer that will seal the very small holes within the surface and ensure that the waterproofing membrane will adhere properly. The primer will prevent air bubbles in the membrane.
We install mandatory bond breakers for all floor-to-wall and wall-to-wall junctions to allow for structural movement without tearing the waterproofing membrane. We install water stops to contain water.
We apply the first coat of the waterproofing membrane to the primed surface and detailed areas like corners and pipe penetrations.
After the first coat has dried completely, we apply a second coat to ensure a comprehensively thick waterproofing membrane that is free of any holes or gaps.
Once the second coat has fully dried, we block the area and pour water to test for leaks.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Compliant & Quality-Assured Bathroom Waterproofing
At Sure Seal Waterproofing, compliance and quality-assured workmanship sit at the foundation of every bathroom waterproofing system we install. Bathrooms are classified as high-risk wet areas, and failure at this stage can result in significant rectification costs and long-term liability. For this reason, every waterproofing bathroom system is completed in strict accordance with AS 3740, manufacturer specifications, and project documentation, ensuring durability, performance, and confidence at handover.
Our team applies a methodical, detail-focused approach to surface preparation, junction treatment, membrane thickness control, and inspection. Particular attention is given to wet area interfaces, penetrations, and waterproof bathroom flooring to ensure water is fully contained and directed as intended. This disciplined process reduces defect exposure, supports warranty requirements, and delivers bathrooms that consistently meet audit and inspection expectations for builders and developers.

WHAT CLIENTS ASK US
Frequently Asked Questions About Bathroom Waterproofing

Do you offer free inspections?
We deliver professional waterproofing results that improve property protection, durability.
1. Why is professional bathroom waterproofing critical in residential and multi-residential builds?
Bathroom waterproofing is one of the most critical risk components within any building. Bathrooms are exposed to constant moisture, and failure to install a compliant system can lead to water ingress, structural damage, mould growth, and costly defect rectification. Professional installation ensures the waterproofing system performs long term and protects builders from post-handover liability.
2. What Australian Standards apply to bathroom waterproofing?
Bathroom waterproofing must comply with AS 3740, which governs the installation of waterproofing systems in internal wet areas. This standard outlines requirements for surface preparation, detailing at junctions, membrane application, and inspection. Compliant installation supports warranties, certification, and successful audits at handover.
3. What areas are included in a compliant bathroom waterproofing system?
A compliant system includes shower recesses, bathroom floors, wall linings in wet zones, floor wastes, penetrations, door thresholds, and waterproof bathroom flooring. Each of these areas must be detailed correctly to ensure water is contained and directed as intended, preventing leaks beyond the wet area.
4. How does correct bathroom waterproofing reduce defects and call-backs?
Defects commonly occur due to inadequate preparation, insufficient membrane thickness, or poor detailing at junctions and penetrations. Professional waterproofing bathroom systems address these high-risk points using a methodical process and quality-assured workmanship, significantly reducing the likelihood of leaks, insurance claims, and ongoing maintenance issues.
5. When should bathroom waterproofing be installed during the construction process?
Bathroom waterproofing is completed after substrate preparation and before tiling works commence. Waterproofing must be installed on clean, structurally sound surfaces and allowed to cure correctly before follow-on trades proceed. Proper sequencing is essential to achieving a compliant outcome and avoiding costly rework.
6. Do you provide warranties and compliance documentation for bathroom waterproofing works?
Yes. Sure Seal Waterproofing provides a warranty and compliance certificate for all bathroom waterproofing installations. This documentation confirms the system has been installed in accordance with Australian Standards and manufacturer specifications, supporting builder handover requirements and reducing long-term risk exposure.
